The price of Tea in China

It's become sort of an obsession this gas price hike thing. Because i swear I can not help but stare at the posted Gas Prices every single time i pass any Gas Station. It's made me real nostalgic let me tell ya! I'm really starting to miss the good old days when Gas Prices were merely $3.25, because that in hind site is relatively cheap (Right? Fuck!). Not only is it dizzying looking and thinking about it, it is also beginning to affect my lifestyle. No longer am i going out to dinner on certain nights i like to and I've skipped a couple of ballgames in Long Beach and Montebello. Because let me tell you, when you drive 30 miles to work one way Monday-Friday, a 29 mile drive anywhere on the weekend would seem to be preposterous. My philosophy on traveling anything under 30 miles has completely changed since the price hike. It didn't use to be a big deal because i drove it daily. It's a cake walk! But that's no longer the case is it?

I overheard my mom not too long ago complaining about how difficult "Life" has become in the U.S. to my Aunt in the Philippines who practically lives in a Hut. It's kind of a paradox i guess. I wonder what my Aunt was thinking just then when my mom uttered those words. I wonder if she became confused and apathetic or i wonder if she even understood. Because seriously how is she suppose relate to that? $4 gas prices! Who gives a shit we have to pick our own rice around here! I put myself in her shoes (or tsinelas)- If i were still living in that province and a relative of mine from the land of Milk & Honey called and complained about the rising Gas Prices, i would be extremely annoyed (Although the Philippines is affected by this in many ways. The Dollar is down and the gas prices like this....).

I filled up the other day at the Yosemite Shell in Simi Valley. I like it there because it's perched atop a hill towards the bottom of Rocky Peak (Mountain) and overlooking the Freeway and just like all the other gas stations in Simi, it has easy access from the freeway and local streets (unlike some of the obscurely positioned stations in the San Fernando Valley). It's very Mountainous and somewhat picturesque. It sort of gives the illusion that you're far away from cluttered Los Angeles. Anyway i was filling up and saw on the meter that the person before me, presumably in a full-sized vehicle, pumped 24 gallons and spent a whopping $96. I suddenly felt sorry for the guy right then. I mean it's got to be pretty bad when the cost to fill-up your car is actually more than the "Octane" designation for the gasoline lol...

I found myself thinking about the guy for the better part of the day. In fact i told a lot of my co-workers about it. This incited stories about how the gas prices is affecting their lives and family too. Jim is thinking twice about attending a wedding in beautiful Seal Beach because of the cost of gas and claims his invitation was only implied anyway. Good thinkin' Jim! Alex is really dreading the bi-monthly off-roading excursion with his Muddin' cronies in the dessert but is going anyway. Erik, well he is okay he'll make it up with O.T. I'm sure...

I turned-on the news like i usually do when i got home and wouldn't you know it, the news was about the soaring Gas Prices (Record prices in fact...). What a surprise! According to ABC news "The Automobile Association of America reported that the increased price in Crude Oil is to blame for the increased price is Gasoline". This baffled me a bit at first because it seemed pretty obvious to me that would be the reason why. I mean it's like saying the price of Salmon in the State's of California and Oregon is expected to increase because the fishing of Salmon off the shores of the aforementioned States have been banned. DUH! Incidentally that was the next enthralling item on the News that evening. Wonderful stuff huh? Never mind the actual reason behind why the price of Crude Oil has increased dramatically and the fact that a certain Salmon Specie has been deemed endangered by the California Department of Fish and Game- let's just report that shit is going up! Dumbfounding i tell ya...

These deeply engrossing news pissed me off so much i just turned it off. No i didn't just change the channel i turned off the damn Television. I didn't wanna freakin' watch junk television anymore. Well at least until Jeopardy...
